The hull of the Ferrari HyperSail is complete, Golem reports — the first tangible sign that the sports car maker's move into sailing is more than a design exercise.

It is the first boat Ferrari has ever built, and the company has treated the project as an engineering program rather than a badge-licensing deal: the vessel is being developed in-house, drawing on the aerodynamics and materials work that goes into its cars.

A finished hull moves the project out of the design and engineering phase and into outfitting, the slow and expensive stretch where systems, interiors and rigging go in. Ferrari has not said when the completed yacht will be delivered.
