Germany's Bundeswehr is set to acquire 48 drone-defense systems from Diehl, the German defense contractor, under the GARMR program, according to Golem.
The order is a concrete data point in Europe's push to field counter-drone hardware. Cheap first-person-view drones have reshaped the war in Ukraine and exposed gaps in conventional air defenses built for larger, faster threats — gaps that have fed directly into European procurement priorities.
For Diehl, best known for the IRIS-T air-defense family, the contract extends its position in a segment where demand has climbed sharply since 2022. Forty-eight systems is a fielding-scale order rather than a prototype purchase, pointing to a program moving into production.
