Anthropic has released an official Claude app for Apple CarPlay, making it the fifth major AI chatbot available in vehicles. The app launched Sunday and allows users to interact with Claude via voice commands through the iPhone vehicle integration.

Like competing chatbot apps already in CarPlay — ChatGPT, Grok, Perplexity, and Meta AI — the Claude app is designed to minimize screen distraction. Users tap the app icon to start a conversation (a CarPlay limitation since only Siri can be launched by voice), then interact primarily through voice. The app shows indicators when Claude is listening, speaking, or when a conversation is paused or resumed.

The app communicates automatically in German when used in German-speaking regions. Claude cannot control vehicle functions, as there is no interface for that. As with other platforms, the free tier has usage limits, while subscriptions range from 22 to 299.99 euros per month.

With Claude now onboard, Apple has successfully aggregated all five major chatbot providers in the CarPlay ecosystem. Apple only recently began allowing chatbot-style apps in vehicles starting with iOS 26.4, and the rollout has proceeded quickly. A major Siri AI upgrade, expected with iOS 27 later this month, will further deepen AI integration in CarPlay.

Meanwhile, CarPlay Ultra — Apple's next-generation, deeper vehicle integration — has yet to gain traction with automakers.
