Adobe has integrated a new Generate Video feature directly into Lightroom's desktop application, marking a significant expansion of AI-powered tools in professional photography workflows.
The feature allows photographers to select any static image and generate up to a 5-second video clip. The AI analyzes the photo's content and adds contextual, realistic motion — clouds drifting across a sky, water flowing through a landscape, hair blowing in a breeze. Users can optionally provide a text prompt to guide the type of movement generated.
The capability is positioned for social media content creation, where moving images significantly outperform static photos in engagement algorithms on platforms like Instagram and Reels. Adobe states it uses licensed training data to minimize legal risk.
Alongside the Lightroom update, Adobe has also refined Photoshop's generative fill and AI tools with more granular user controls — additional sliders, options, and fine-tuning parameters — responding to criticism that AI features previously produced unpredictable results.
The updates are available now in the latest Lightroom and Photoshop desktop versions.
