Vietnam's private space industry just booked its ticket to orbit. VinSpace — the aerospace startup founded by conglomerate Vingroup in November 2025 — has signed a contract with SpaceX to launch its first satellites aboard a Transporter rideshare mission in 2027, according to Reuters and the Associated Press.

The deal marks the first commercial launch contract for Vietnam's young private space sector. VinSpace will take responsibility for the full satellite lifecycle — research, design, manufacturing and on-orbit operation — with the initial spacecraft used to validate its technology in space ahead of future commercial services. Neither the number of satellites nor the financial terms have been disclosed.

The agreement is part of a broader Vietnamese push into high-value technology. Hanoi opened a major space science and technology center earlier this year and has set the goal of becoming a mid-level space power in Southeast Asia by 2030. SpaceX's relationship with the country has deepened since Vietnam permitted Starlink service earlier this year.

Rideshare economics are quietly rewriting who gets to reach orbit. Instead of funding an entire launch, young companies and emerging space nations can buy a berth alongside other payloads on SpaceX's Transporter missions — dramatically lowering the barrier to flight heritage. For VinSpace, that means its engineers' first satellites can ride to space without betting the company on a dedicated rocket.

The launch, expected in the second quarter of 2027, would be a milestone for a country that has historically depended on foreign satellite infrastructure — and a validation of rideshare's promise as the great equalizer of the space economy.
