Trump Media launched a paid data product on August 1 that gives subscribers a direct, licensed, real-time feed of the most market-moving posts on Truth Social — and Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff are demanding the SEC investigate it. The product, discussed at prices up to $100,000 a month, would let trading firms act on market-moving posts in milliseconds, raising fair-access and potential market-manipulation concerns.
In a letter to SEC Chair Paul Atkins reported by Reuters and CNBC on July 29, the senators asked the regulator to probe whether the plan breaks US securities laws by offering privileged, real-time access to market-moving communications.
The concerns are amplified by AI-driven trading: automated systems can consume a licensed real-time feed and trade on it before other market participants even see the post. Regulators are now grappling with how markets should handle AI systems trading on real-time social data — a genuinely new regulatory frontier at the intersection of social media, high-speed finance and AI.
Trump Media has not publicly confirmed final pricing or launch terms, and the SEC has not said whether it will open an inquiry. The episode marks one of the clearest collisions yet between social media and the information economy of AI-era markets.
