Prime Intellect, an AI infrastructure startup founded in 2024, has secured $130 million in Series A funding at a $1 billion valuation, signaling strong investor appetite for enterprise-owned AI agent platforms.
Unlike companies that simply provide access to frontier AI models like GPT or Claude, Prime Intellect gives organizations a full-stack platform to train, build, and deploy their own proprietary agentic systems. The startup offers compute resources, reinforcement learning frameworks, and orchestration tools — enabling enterprises to create custom AI agents trained on their own data and workflows.
"The goal is to shift control from frontier labs back to the enterprises themselves," the company said in its announcement. The funding round reflects a growing trend where businesses want AI agents that are deeply integrated with their specific operations rather than relying on general-purpose models from a handful of providers.
The company has already achieved $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), a remarkable figure for a startup barely two years old. Prime Intellect plans to use the fresh capital to scale its compute infrastructure, expand its engineering team, and accelerate product development.
The raise comes amid an explosion of interest in AI agents — autonomous systems that can plan, execute tasks, and make decisions with minimal human oversight. Major tech companies and startups alike are racing to build agent frameworks, but Prime Intellect's bet is that enterprises will prefer to own and control their agent infrastructure rather than renting it from Big Tech.
Industry observers note that the startup's full-stack approach — combining compute, training frameworks, and deployment tools — differentiates it from point solutions that only address one part of the agent lifecycle. Prime Intellect's platform supports open-weight models, allowing companies to avoid vendor lock-in.
