Nvidia has raised its share buyback program by a record $150 billion, the largest such authorization in U.S. corporate history, underscoring the cash that the AI boom is generating for the world's most valuable company.
The chipmaker said the move lifts its total approved program to $235 billion, which it is authorized to spend on repurchases through the end of fiscal 2028. The previous record authorization was Apple's $110 billion, approved in 2024.
The decision was announced on Monday, ahead of the company's earnings and options activity, and was widely read as a confidence signal about its AI business. Buybacks return cash to shareholders by reducing the number of shares outstanding, and Nvidia's ability to commit to a figure this large reflects the scale of its profits from data-center accelerators.
German outlet heise noted a second reading of the announcement: massive capital returns can also indicate that a company expects slower growth, since mature businesses with fewer reinvestment opportunities are the ones that most often turn to buybacks on this scale. Nvidia stock has risen sharply on the back of its AI results.
