heise online's testers put Huawei's Watch GT 7 Pro through daily life, training and a five-hour GPS hike — and came away impressed by the sports-watch core, while noting the familiar smartwatch compromises.
The GT 7 Pro keeps the family recipe: a 1.47-inch AMOLED (466 × 466), sapphire glass, an aerospace-grade titanium case with a ceramic bezel, and 5 ATM water resistance with EN 13319 certification for freediving down to 40 meters. The redesigned fluoroelastomer strap tucks its end inside the band so it does not snag during sport; sensitive skin may still chafe in summer heat.
Heart-rate accuracy was the highlight: readings deviated only minimally from a chest strap even in intense sessions. Multiband GNSS proved precise, and the watch now supports real topographic offline maps plus Komoot route import — making it a genuine tool for trail runs and tours off the beaten path. Cyclists get a virtual powermeter and more detailed performance analysis; skiers gain indoor skiing, G-force data and, per Huawei, more than 50 percent more precise positioning in ski mode. A new Physical Readiness Score assesses daily recovery — provided you wear the watch at night.
Health tracking covers SpO2, heart-rate variability, estimates of arterial stiffness, pulse-wave arrhythmia analysis and a one-channel ECG that can flag signs of atrial fibrillation. The testers stress that this complements, not replaces, a doctor.
Battery life is the headline. Huawei promises 12 days of typical use and up to 21 frugal days; the testers measured almost 15 days with three workouts a week plus the GPS hike. GPS runtime is now rated above 50 hours, and a full charge takes about an hour.
The price rose noticeably: the recommended retail price is 429 euros (street price around 379 euros; a Style Set with a silver titanium band costs 469 euros) — putting it above the GT 6 Pro's launch price.
But the GT 7 Pro remains a sports watch, not a full smartwatch: no eSIM or standalone LTE, no WLAN network connectivity, a small third-party app ecosystem on HarmonyOS, and a watch-face store that is largely paid. Huawei Health is still not in the Google Play Store — Android users outside the Huawei, Samsung and Honor ecosystems must sideload it, while iPhone users find it in Apple's App Store. Bluetooth cannot be switched off independently at night, which may bother radiation-sensitive users.
Verdict: for active users who want precise measurements, long endurance and a premium finish — and can live without an app ecosystem — the Watch GT 7 Pro is a very strong pick. heise's sports-watch comparison currently ranks Garmin ahead of Huawei and Suunto.
