DJI has announced SDR Transmission 2, a wireless video link for film and TV production that can now transmit DCI-4K60 with 10-bit HDR. The biggest design change is that each module can act as either a transmitter or receiver, replacing the fixed roles of the original system. Pricing starts at 350 euros per unit.
The original DJI SDR Transmission topped out at 1080p60. The new system is a substantial jump in both resolution and color depth. DCI-4K corresponds to 4096 x 2160 pixels, and 10-bit color means 1024 tonal steps per channel instead of 256 at 8-bit.
The most meaningful design shift is the move to identical modules. The previous system used separate transmitter and receiver units. Now the same hardware can be configured for either role. For rental houses and production teams, this means greater flexibility: a spare unit can be deployed on either side of the chain.
Connectivity is HDMI and DisplayPort on the main unit, with SDI available only through a separately sold expansion board. HDMI and DisplayPort support DCI-4K60 with HDR; SDI is limited to 1080p60.
DJI quotes a maximum range of four kilometers, measured under CE-compliant conditions with one transmitter and one receiver in open, interference-free terrain. Real-world range will be shorter in dense RF environments.
The modules operate in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, including DFS. DJI notes that some frequency ranges may be restricted regionally. In Germany, users should verify permitted bands and indoor/outdoor rules under current general authorizations.
The SDR Transmission 2 is available in the DJI store for 350 euros per unit, with a two-unit set at 630 euros. All variants are currently sold out.
