TechCrunch's Lauren Forristal tested it and was "yelled at by a rooster" — the signature option of Clucky, a new iPhone alarm app for habitual snoozers from former Fanatics software engineer Adrian Angelo Abelarde.

Instead of a dismiss button, Clucky demands a mission before silence: solving math problems, repeating tile sequences, typing what it says, shaking the phone, walking a set number of steps, doing push-ups, tilting a ball into a goal or completing an AI camera challenge. Conventional sounds — gentle chimes, birds, classic beeps — are available too, plus an "Extra Loud Mode" that cranks up the volume as soon as the alarm fires.

A stats section tracks the average seconds your alarm rings before you finish a mission, missions beaten and total wake-ups, and issues a weekly "Rooster Report" grading your wake-up performance. Friends and family can form private groups — "Nests" or "Flocks" — to wake at the same time and hold each other accountable.

Clucky is free on the App Store with a $39.99-per-year pro subscription, joining a growing category of challenge alarms such as Alarmy and Awake.
