Broadcom has raised its fiscal 2027 AI chip revenue forecast to approximately $115 billion, up from a previous target of $100 billion, signaling that the AI hardware boom shows no signs of slowing down.

The company reported quarterly AI semiconductor revenue of roughly $22.2 billion, representing a 143 percent surge year-over-year. The forecast update came as part of Broadcom's latest earnings report, where CEO Hock Tan projected that AI chip revenue could double to $230 billion by fiscal 2028.

A Challenger to Nvidia's Dominance

Broadcom has positioned itself as the primary alternative to Nvidia in the AI chip market, particularly for custom AI accelerators designed for hyperscale data center operators like Google, Meta, and ByteDance. While Nvidia dominates the market for general-purpose AI training chips, Broadcom's strength lies in bespoke silicon tailored to specific workloads.

The company's custom chip business has benefited enormously from the AI infrastructure buildout. As major technology companies race to deploy AI capabilities, they need not just Nvidia's off-the-shelf GPUs but also specialized chips optimized for their particular models and inference workloads.

The AI Supercycle Thesis

Broadcom's upgraded forecast reinforces the broader narrative of an AI hardware supercycle. The company expects AI chip revenue to reach $16 billion in its current fiscal quarter, slightly below analyst estimates of $16.36 billion — a minor miss that nonetheless rattled some investors.

The long-term trajectory is what matters most: Broadcom's projection of $115 billion in AI chip revenue for fiscal 2027, followed by potential doubling to $230 billion the year after, suggests the company sees multi-year growth ahead driven by enterprise AI adoption, sovereign AI initiatives, and the continuing expansion of AI-native applications.

Market Impact

Despite the strong forecast, Broadcom's shares tumbled after the earnings report as investors focused on the slight quarterly miss. The stock had already risen 49 percent in 2026, outpacing Nvidia's 39 percent gains over the same period.

The AI chip market is becoming increasingly competitive, with AMD, Intel, and a growing number of startups challenging Nvidia's dominance. But Broadcom's unique position — combining custom chip design with networking infrastructure — gives it a differentiated play in the AI hardware ecosystem.
