BMW has added the iX4 to its Neue Klasse line-up: a sporty electric SUV coupé positioned between the iX3 and the larger iX5. Prices start at €70,900, putting it almost exactly against the Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron and the Porsche Macan Electric. The market launch is scheduled for March 2027, when the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive become orderable; the top iX4 M60 xDrive follows from January 2027.

Every variant carries one electric motor per axle, giving all-wheel drive. The iX4 40 xDrive is rated at 275 kW and 520 newton-metres, the iX4 50 xDrive at 345 kW and 645 Nm — good for 5.6 and 4.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h respectively, with a 210 km/h top speed.

Built on the 800-volt architecture of BMW's sixth-generation eDrive, the iX4 can DC fast-charge at up to 400 kW. With the larger 108.7 kWh battery, BMW says ten minutes of charging adds up to 387 km of range, and the maximum is 828 km. The smaller 82.6 kWh pack charges at 300 kW, adds up to 301 km in ten minutes and offers a total of up to 638 km. Both go from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. Charging is 11 kW AC as standard with a 22 kW option, and bidirectional charging (V2L, V2H, V2G) is supported.

Underneath, BMW pairs an adaptive lightweight chassis with a double-joint front axle and a five-link rear axle. A central computer BMW calls 'Heart of Joy' manages drive and dynamics together with Dynamic Performance Control, which the company says is ten times faster than previous systems. The M Sport package is standard, including 20-inch wheels and blue brake calipers. Inside there is a 17.9-inch central display, a panoramic head-up display spanning the dashboard and the latest version of OS X, with AI-supported assistance systems enabling partially automated driving and parking.

The M variant arrives soon after launch: the iX4 M60 xDrive produces 450 kW and 875 Nm, sprints to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and tops out at 240 km/h, with BMW quoting a maximum range of 777 km. Standard equipment includes 21-inch wheels, adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, an M limited-slip differential on the rear axle and two dedicated driving modes. BMW also presented the more powerful iX3 M60 xDrive alongside the new coupé.
