Alibaba pushed its Qianwen Work (Tongyi Office) AI agent platform into public beta on August 30, launching a desktop client first before a broader web and DingTalk rollout. The platform was built under new DingTalk CEO Chen Yusen following the merger of several internal AI office projects — QoderWork, Wukong, and MuleRun.
Qianwen Work is positioned as a B2B and enterprise-focused counterpart to Tencent's consumer-oriented WorkBuddy AI agent, targeting what IDC projects will become a RMB 332 billion ($46 billion) Chinese office-agent market. The platform integrates AI agents into document creation, data analysis, meeting summaries, and workflow automation within Alibaba's enterprise ecosystem.
The launch comes amid an intensifying race among Chinese tech giants to capture the enterprise AI agent market. Tencent launched its Hy4 flagship model and WorkBuddy consumer agent earlier in August, while ByteDance has been expanding its own enterprise AI offerings through Feishu (Lark).
Alibaba's approach leverages its existing dominance in China's enterprise cloud market through Alibaba Cloud and the widespread adoption of DingTalk, which has over 600 million users. The company has been rapidly integrating its Qwen family of AI models across its product portfolio.
