The United States is investing more than $2.5 billion in Southeast Asia, headlined by a new artificial intelligence initiative to export American AI technology across the region.
The package includes: - AI SPARK — an initiative to export American AI technology and expertise to Southeast Asian nations - $1.5 billion platform to build out energy infrastructure in the region
The announcement was made as the US seeks to deepen economic and technological ties with ASEAN nations, countering China's growing influence in the region. The AI SPARK initiative aims to provide Southeast Asian countries with access to American AI tools, training, and infrastructure, helping them build digital economies while maintaining interoperability with US technology standards.
The $1.5 billion energy platform will focus on developing sustainable power infrastructure, including renewable energy projects and grid modernization, supporting the region's growing industrial and data center demands.
The investment represents a significant escalation in the US-China tech competition playing out across Southeast Asia, as both powers vie for influence in the region's rapidly digitizing economies.
