Superhuman has acquired Fathom, a Y Combinator-backed AI meeting notetaker, the company announced today. Fathom has over 400,000 monthly active users and has recorded more than 1 million meetings. It had raised over $30 million, with a $94 million valuation in 2024 per PitchBook data. Investors included Zoom Apps Fund, Telescope Partners, BoxOne Ventures, and Maven Ventures, with individual backers like Reddit CEO Steve Huffman and former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear.

The Agentic Pivot

The acquisition is the latest move in a broader productivity platform consolidation around "agentic work" — the idea that AI should proactively initiate tasks rather than waiting for user prompts. Meetings are a natural trigger: they generate action items, decisions, and context that AI agents could use to draft emails, update databases, schedule follow-ups, and start workstreams without human prompting.

"We've been working internally on this area for a while as well. I think it greatly increased our confidence in the demand in this category," Superhuman CEO Shishir Mehrotra told TechCrunch. "It also becomes very clear how deep the products in this category are and how much you need to build."

Superhuman tested an internal notetaker with select users earlier this year but ultimately chose to acquire a finished product. The speed calculus favored buying over building: Fathom's team had already solved the hard problems of meeting recording across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.

What Superhuman Already Has

Superhuman's platform now includes an email client, docs app, calendar, database solution, and an AI agent builder. With Fathom in the middle, the company can close the loop: meeting notes trigger agents that draft follow-up emails, update CRM entries, and schedule next steps — all without the user leaving their inbox.

Fathom CEO Richard White pointed to distribution as the primary driver: "The reach of Superhuman is massive. If we were to operate Fathom as a standalone company, we would have to build a lot of things that are already in the Superhuman platform."

The Competitive Landscape

The meeting notetaker space is crowded. Granola, Read AI, and new entrant Wispr have all raised millions. Even healthy standalone notetakers are feeling market pressure to become platforms rather than features. Superhuman's acquisition of Fathom signals that the consolidation phase has begun: standalone notetakers may struggle to compete against platform plays that bundle notetaking with email, calendars, and AI agents.

The deal also comes on the heels of Superhuman's own acquisition by Grammarly earlier in 2026, creating a multi-layered consolidation in the productivity AI space.
