Sonos on September 1 unveiled its biggest product refresh in years, introducing two new audio products alongside the Sonos 27 operating system — a comprehensive overhaul following the company's troubled 2024 app redesign.
The Beam Ultra is a redesigned compact soundbar with a 7.1.2-channel configuration, adding two up-firing drivers for Dolby Atmos spatial audio. It features a redesigned centre channel with new hardware and processing, plus AI-powered speech enhancement with four levels of adjustment for dialogue clarity. Priced at $699, it ships September 29.
The Ace Ultra headphones get redesigned 40mm drivers and 10 microphones (up from 8), with substantially improved active noise cancellation at low frequencies. The headline feature is direct ecosystem integration: a single button press moves audio between speakers and headphones without a phone nearby — fixing a key shortcoming of the original Ace. Battery life rises to 35 hours with ANC enabled, with a three-minute fast charge providing three hours of playback. They support aptX Adaptive Lossless over Bluetooth and 16-bit/48kHz USB-C audio. Priced at $449.
Sonos 27, rolling out to existing S2-compatible products from September 8, introduces changes to the app, system controls, and AI functionality. The announcements represent Sonos's most aggressive push to rebuild credibility after its widely criticized app redesign.
