Samsung Electronics held its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, unveiling the eighth generation of its Galaxy Z foldable lineup with three distinct devices: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The event also introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, Galaxy Watch9, and Samsung's first intelligent eyewear.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: The First Ultra Foldable

The Fold8 Ultra is the first model in the Galaxy Z series to carry the "Ultra" designation, Samsung's highest tier of performance. When unfolded, it reveals an expansive 8-inch main display with a remarkably thin profile of just 4.1 millimeters. Weighing only 215 grams, it is the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold yet.

Samsung's proprietary Flex Titanium technology minimizes the display crease while improving durability. The folding magnets, hinge mechanism, and display tension have been precisely optimized, and refinements to the edge design make the device easier to unfold.

The large display enables enhanced AI features including Gemini Notebook, which can transform meeting minutes, PDFs, or audio recordings into summaries, AI-generated videos, presentation slides, and even podcasts. The device also features an agentic AI system called Now Nudge that anticipates when multitasking is needed, automatically suggesting actions like adding dinner plans from a messaging app to the calendar.

Powering the Fold8 Ultra is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with a 5,000mAh battery.

Galaxy Z Fold8: A Reimagined Form Factor

The standard Fold8 has been redesigned with an all-new aspect ratio. Unfolding the device expands the display to a 4:3 ratio — ideal for movies and games — while rotating switches to a 3:4 ratio for reading e-books or browsing the web. The cover screen's 10:16 aspect ratio provides a familiar experience for short-form content.

Weighing just 201 grams, the Fold8 is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. A 4,800mAh battery supports more than 26 hours of video playback. New AI features include My FanCam, which automatically reframes video around a selected subject, and Gemini agentic AI that can handle complex multi-app tasks such as identifying a landmark in a photo and booking a nearby hotel.

Galaxy Z Flip8: More Without Unfolding

The Flip8 measures 6.1 millimeters thick when unfolded and weighs only 180 grams. A stronger frame and more durable hinge made with high-strength materials improve longevity while maintaining the slim profile.

The biggest upgrade is the more versatile FlexWindow. Users can check weather, schedule, notifications, exchange rates, and stock updates through personalized Now Brief cards — all without unfolding the device. App functionality extends to the cover screen, allowing photo browsing, messaging, and quick task completion.

New camera features include Camcorder Grip for stable one-handed recording, Super Steady horizontal lock for smooth footage, and Dual Recording that captures both the creator and subject simultaneously — ideal for vlogging.

Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts at $2,100 and launches on August 7. The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 pricing and availability details were shared during the event, with pre-orders opening immediately following the announcement.

Samsung also revealed Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9 alongside the company's first foray into smart eyewear, signaling an expanding ecosystem strategy that integrates AI across all form factors.
