Samsung is pulling the plug on its OneDrive integration in the native Gallery app. Starting September 30, 2026, the Gallery app will no longer sync photos and videos directly to Microsoft's cloud storage — instead, it will sync with Google Photos.
The transition is already underway. Samsung has begun rolling out version 1.6.09.31 of the Gallery Cloud Sync app through the Galaxy Store, which removes the OneDrive link and adds Google Photos as the new sync target. Once linked, photos and videos from Samsung Galaxy devices will appear in Google Photos in their original quality, consuming space in the user's Google account (15 GB free, paid tiers starting at approximately €2/month for 100 GB).
Samsung has confirmed that deletions will sync across both apps — deleting a photo in either Samsung Gallery or Google Photos removes it from both the app and the cloud. Edits made in either app will also be preserved, with both original and edited versions visible in the library.
Microsoft had announced the OneDrive sunset in May, advising users to transition to the standalone OneDrive app before the deadline. The move signals a notable shift in Samsung's cloud partnerships: Google Photos becomes the default backup destination for one of the world's largest smartphone ecosystems, with over a billion active Galaxy devices.
Samsung has not yet made an official announcement about the new Google partnership, which is expected by early October at the latest. The change applies globally and does not require users to take immediate action — existing OneDrive-synced photos will remain accessible through the OneDrive app itself.
