Samsung Electronics announced Friday that it expects total shareholder returns of 90–110 trillion won ($65–80 billion) in 2026, marking the largest such package ever by a Korean company.
The announcement includes approximately 30 trillion won in cash dividends to be paid in the third quarter, including the company's regular quarterly dividend. The remaining return details will be finalized at a board meeting in late October, considering a combination of cash dividends and share buybacks and cancellations.
The move comes just days after rival SK Hynix announced a 40 trillion won share buyback, making it a blockbuster week for shareholder returns among South Korea's chip giants. Both companies are riding a wave of AI-driven demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in AI training and inference systems.
Samsung's stock is up approximately 135% year-to-date as the company has been working to catch up with SK Hynix in the HBM market. The company's 2024–2026 shareholder return policy commits 50% of free cash flow accumulated over the three-year period to returns, while maintaining annual regular dividends of 9.8 trillion won.
Under the same program, Samsung paid 20.9 trillion won in cash dividends in 2024 and 2025 and spent 8.4 trillion won on share repurchases for cancellation.
