OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup whose AI tools turn prompts, notes, documents and research into polished, editable presentations. The startup announced this week that its team members are now working on ChatGPT.
NextSlide's website now carries a note from founder Ahmed Beshry describing the product as one "that could turn prompts, notes, documents, or research into a polished, editable presentation." The ultimate goal, Beshry wrote, was "to make visual communication more accessible and help more people express their ideas clearly." By joining OpenAI, he said, the team will "continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work."
Financial terms were not disclosed. In a LinkedIn post, Beshry said the announcement was coming "a few months late," because the acquisition actually closed "earlier this year." Beshry was previously a co-founder of Caper AI, a smart-cart and cashier-less checkout startup that Instacart acquired in 2021.
The deal is the latest sign of OpenAI pushing beyond conversational AI and into workplace productivity tools. Presentation creation is the next frontier in the race for business customers, where OpenAI competes with Anthropic and other providers. For NextSlide's small team, the acquisition means its software will live on inside the world's most widely used AI assistant rather than as a standalone app.
OpenAI has been steadily expanding ChatGPT into a full productivity suite, and adding presentation generation brings it into direct competition with dedicated slide-deck tools. Neither company has commented on how NextSlide's technology will be integrated, but the team is already at work on ChatGPT features.
