The Verge reports that Nintendo has announced Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid game coming to the Switch 2. The announcement continues the beloved franchise's side-scrolling tradition on Nintendo's next-generation hardware. Details remain limited, but the game marks another entry in the Metroid series that has been a cornerstone of Nintendo's first-party lineup since the original NES title in 1986.
The 2D Metroid sub-series has seen critical acclaim in recent years, with Metroid Dread (2021) on the original Switch earning widespread praise for its tight gameplay and modernization of the classic formula. Ravenous appears to continue this lineage on the more powerful Switch 2 platform.
