Google is expanding Gemini in Google Classroom to students of all ages, including K-12 pupils, in the company's biggest push yet to embed generative AI into everyday schooling.
Starting August 10 on the web (August 17 on mobile), students whose schools have enabled Gemini, Gemini in Classroom, and Gemini Notebook will get access to a Gemini tab in Classroom. There they can turn class materials into flashcards, practice quizzes, interactive study guides, and audio overviews. A redesigned Classroom homepage also adds "Learn with Gemini" shortcuts that offer guided help for upcoming assignments.
The update introduces contextualized starter prompts: when a student picks a prompt, they can select a specific class and assignment, and Gemini automatically pulls in the title, instructions, and curriculum materials from Google Classroom to ground the interaction in their actual coursework.
Admins keep control: the feature stays off for students unless a district has enabled the relevant Gemini controls, and schools can disable access for under-18 students by organizational unit. Google says the rollout covers all Classroom-supported languages where Gemini is available, across Workspace for Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus editions.
