Google's Gemini app has crossed a historic milestone: more than one billion people now use it every month, making it the fastest-growing product in the company's history, Google announced on August 11.
The milestone caps a remarkably fast rise. As recently as February 2026 the app had around 750 million monthly users, and Alphabet's second-quarter results in July put it at roughly 950 million — meaning about 50 million people have joined in the past month alone. Google says the assistant now generates more than 150 million images every day, powering everything from small-business marketing materials to school projects.
Voice is a major driver of the surge: 63% of users now talk directly to Gemini, and busy parents are 43% more likely to use voice for everyday tasks. One in five Gemini Live sessions goes beyond audio — people point live camera feeds or share their screens for real-time help with DIY projects and homework. Students are heavy users too: 38% of school-related requests include an attachment.
The app has also become a hub for cross-platform automation, able to take actions across more than 40 popular Android apps, from booking rides to reserving restaurant tables. On Apple's platforms, Gemini counts more than 100 million active iOS users, and Google says macOS power users prompt about twice as often as users on other surfaces.
"As we keep building for the next billion, our goal remains the same: to make Gemini the most personal, proactive, and powerful assistant," Google said.
