Enveda Biosciences, the biotech startup that uses artificial intelligence to mine nature's chemical library for new drugs, announced today that it has raised$311 million in a Series C round. The funding, led by existing investors with participation from new strategic backers, will be used to advance multiple drug candidates into human clinical trials.

The Pitch: Nature's Chemical Library

Nature has been producing bioactive compounds for billions of years — plants, fungi, and microorganisms have evolved sophisticated chemical arsenals to fight infection, regulate growth, and defend against predators. Traditional drug discovery has tapped only a fraction of this molecular diversity.

Enveda's platform uses machine learning to analyze massive databases of plant and microbial metabolites, identifying chemical structures with therapeutic potential that human researchers would need decades to catalog manually. The company says its AI can predict a compound's biological activity, toxicity, and drug-likeness from its molecular structure alone.

The Pipeline

Enveda now has several compounds in various stages of preclinical and early clinical development:

- ENV-101: A plant-derived compound targeting chronic inflammatory diseases, now in Phase1 trials - ENV-204: A microbially-sourced molecule for metabolic disorders, entering Phase1 later this year - ENV-312: A compound with potential in autoimmune conditions, in IND-enabling studies

The company has also built a proprietary library of over500,000 natural product structures, which it licenses to pharmaceutical partners for their own drug discovery programs.

Why It Matters

AI-driven drug discovery has been one of the hottest areas of biotech investment, but results have been mixed. Many AI drug discovery companies have produced promising preclinical candidates that later failed in human trials. Enveda's bet is that nature's own chemical library — shaped by billions of years of evolution — provides a higher-quality starting point than purely synthetic compounds.

The$311 million raise is one of the largest Series C rounds in the AI drug discovery space, reflecting growing investor confidence that the approach is finally maturing. Enveda's previous rounds raised$24 million (Series A) and$67 million (Series B).

The Challenge Ahead

The real test will come in clinical trials. Natural compounds have historically been difficult to standardize and manufacture at pharmaceutical scale — a problem that has limited their use in modern medicine. Enveda says its AI platform also optimizes for manufacturability, identifying synthetic routes that can produce drug-scale quantities of its natural-product candidates.

The company plans to use the funding to expand its clinical team, build out manufacturing partnerships, and initiate Phase1 trials for its lead compound, ENV-101, across multiple inflammatory disease indications.
