Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, marking a major update for Mac users. The headline feature is the new Siri AI assistant, which allows users to ask questions, search through personal context including photos and emails, and take actions across apps like Messages and Reminders. A dedicated Siri app now keeps an archive of conversations for easy reference.
Siri AI Arrives on Mac
The Siri AI overhaul, first previewed at WWDC 2026, brings a conversational assistant that can understand and act on natural language requests tied to the user's personal data. It represents Apple's biggest push into AI-powered desktop computing. However, the feature launches initially as a beta and is only available in English, with broader language support expected in future updates.
Liquid Glass Improvements
Apple also refined its controversial Liquid Glass design language, delivering 'uniform refraction and improved contrast' across the interface. A new slider lets users adjust how opaque Liquid Glass elements appear — a direct response to user feedback that the original implementation was too transparent and made text hard to read. One other notable UI change: consistent window corner radii across the system.
Performance and Compatibility
Apple says macOS 27 delivers improved performance across the board. The update is compatible with all Macs equipped with Apple Silicon — from the M1 onward. Intel Macs are excluded; Apple released macOS Tahoe as the final major update for Intel-based machines last year.
The release comes alongside iOS 27, which brings the same Siri AI overhaul to iPhone and iPad. Apple is positioning the Siri AI assistant as a platform-wide feature that will continue to evolve across its device ecosystem.
