Apple's next iPad mini could arrive at a noticeably higher price, according to a report from the German outlet heise, which describes the company's plans for the small tablet.
The iPad mini has long occupied a particular niche: a compact, one-hand device that is also the most affordable route into the iPad family. A price rise would change that calculus, and it lands as Apple is expected to refresh several products at once.
The report follows earlier hints that Apple's pipeline includes updated small devices. Code leaks reported in late September pointed to a new iPad mini alongside a refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV, suggesting a coordinated update across Apple's 'mini' and home line-up.
Component costs are one plausible driver. A shift to a brighter or more advanced display, more memory for on-device AI, and generally rising memory prices across the industry would all push a compact tablet's bill of materials upward — and Apple has shown little reluctance to pass such costs to buyers.
Why it matters: the iPad mini is a bellwether for Apple's pricing power in tablets. If even its entry-level small iPad gets more expensive, it is a signal about where the company thinks the market is heading — and about what on-device features it expects customers to pay for.
