Anthropic is in talks to buy Nvidia-backed startup Decart AI for about $6 billion, according to people familiar with the matter — a potential blockbuster acquisition for the maker of Claude as it scrambles to secure computing capacity ahead of a mega IPO.

Bloomberg first reported the talks on Wednesday, and Reuters confirmed them with a source, who said Decart's technology could help Anthropic absorb more demand for its AI services. The deal is at an early stage and could still fall through; if completed, Decart's team would join Anthropic's inference and performance organization, the source added. An Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment, while Decart did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Decart, founded in Israel, builds AI infrastructure and optimization technology as well as its own models. Its Lucy model can edit live video in real time, according to the company's website, and its Oasis model generates simulated environments used to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems. The startup raised $300 million in May in a round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.

The talks mark a rare large acquisition for Anthropic, which has historically preferred strategic partnerships. They come as the company prepares for what could be one of the biggest AI listings ever, and moves aggressively to overcome capacity constraints for its services. Last week, Anthropic said it was hiring engineers with hardware and software expertise to help co-design custom chips and AI models that could make Claude run faster and more efficiently.

Analysts said Decart's focus on inference efficiency and real-time generation could complement Anthropic's efforts to cut the cost of serving Claude at scale — a key battleground as AI companies race to keep up with demand. Neither company has confirmed a deal, and talks could still collapse.
