Anthropic has launched Claude for Teachers, offering verified K-12 educators across the United States free access to premium Claude capabilities for a full year through June 30, 2027.
The program provides teachers with AI-powered tools co-developed with Learning Commons that are mapped to academic standards in all 50 US states. When Claude drafts a lesson plan, it draws on widely used curricula and is scaffolded and aligned to teaching standards. At launch, Claude for Teachers connects to trusted curricular resources including OpenSciEd and IM v.360 from Illustrative Mathematics.
Teachers can use Claude to plan differentiated lessons, analyze student data, and generate standards-aligned materials. Key capabilities include analyzing class data from rosters, diagnostics, and attendance to build a picture of where every student stands, and scheduling repeated tasks like reviewing daily exit tickets and adapting the next day's plan accordingly.
Claude for Teachers also includes Claude Code and Cowork, allowing Claude to carry work forward autonomously. The platform integrates with nine edtech tools at launch: ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX.
"We've been working with Anthropic on a Gold Standard that sets out industry best practices for safety and privacy in K-12 education," said Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers. "It's important that Anthropic is committing to these principles in their new Claude for Teachers."
Anthropic is partnering with the Gates Foundation to co-develop tools that improve educational outcomes for K-12 students and will pilot an evaluation of Claude for Teachers in the Detroit Public Schools Community District. The company is also releasing an open-source repository of the teaching skills and a technical writeup of evaluation methodology.
Student data is protected by a K-12 Data Processing Addendum written to comply with FERPA, and no data shared is used for model training purposes. The program is available to individual educators now, with a dedicated offering for schools and districts coming soon.
