Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, is preparing one of the most audacious investor pitches in tech history.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Anthropic is likely to tell prospective investors that its total addressable market (TAM) exceeds $30 trillion — a figure that surpasses SpaceX's own $28.5 trillion TAM estimate, which it called "the largest actionable TAM in human history" when filing for its May IPO.

To quantify the opportunity, Anthropic is measuring the full scope of work that could theoretically be completed with AI models across every industry and profession. The $30 trillion figure is not a revenue forecast but a ceiling estimate of the total economic activity that AI could eventually touch.

The TAM claim comes as Anthropic prepares for what could become the largest IPO ever. The company is targeting a valuation of roughly $2 trillion and may seek to raise as much as $100 billion, according to reports. Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are expected to lead the offering, which could come as early as October 2026.

Anthropic is projecting 2028 revenue of roughly $190 billion to $200 billion, Reuters previously reported. The company crossed $30 billion in annualized revenue by early April 2026, representing extraordinary growth.

The massive TAM claim also frames Anthropic's rivalry with OpenAI and Google. By asserting that AI could reshape $30 trillion in economic activity, Anthropic is arguing that the current AI industry — worth tens of billions in revenue — is barely scratching the surface of what's possible.

Whether that framing resonates with public-market investors will become clear when Anthropic's S-1 filing becomes public.
