Defense technology giant Anduril Industries has quietly vacated its maritime operations along Seattle's Lake Washington Ship Canal after the US Navy canceled the unmanned vessel acquisition program it was pursuing.

The company had invested tens of millions of dollars to revamp the historic former Foss Maritime shipyard, positioning it as its initial US hub for assembling and testing Autonomous Surface Vessels in partnership with South Korea's HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

However, the Navy replaced the Modular Attack Surface Craft program with a new marketplace approach, and when seven vendors were selected for the new initiative, Anduril was not among them. The list included Leidos, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Saronic Technologies, and Sea Machines.

Despite the shipyard exit, Anduril's broader Seattle presence continues to grow, with 560 employees across its Bellevue and downtown offices, up from roughly 30 four years ago. The company recently closed a $5 billion round at a $61 billion valuation and is reportedly targeting $100 billion.
