Geneva Becomes the World's AI Capital

Today marks the opening of the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 at Geneva's Palexpo convention centre, the United Nations' flagship platform for demonstrating how artificial intelligence can serve humanity. Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with over 50 UN partners and co-convened by Switzerland, the four-day summit runs from July 7-10 and brings together over 11,000 participants from 169 countries.

"Day Zero" — July 7 — is dedicated to live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, startup competitions, and hands-on workshops. The expo floor features cutting-edge systems in agentic AI, edge AI, brain-computer interfaces, autonomous vehicles, humanoid robotics, and space computing.

RAISE: A New Documentary by Leonardo DiCaprio

One of the summit's most anticipated highlights is the premiere of "RAISE" , a documentary series executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio that explores how AI is already being used to address humanity's most urgent challenges — from climate change and healthcare access to food security and disaster response. The series follows AI innovators around the world and reveals real-world deployments that are saving lives and protecting the planet.

Global Innovation Competitions

The AI for Good Innovation Factory Grand Finale brings together the most promising AI startups from around the world, competing for funding and partnership opportunities with UN agencies. Other competitions include machine-learning challenges on edge AI, TinyML, and space AI computing, plus the AI for Good Impact Awards and the Robotics Youth Challenge Grand Finale.

Key Themes: Standards, Skills, and Safety

This year's summit program addresses the most pressing frontier challenges in AI: - Agentic AI Security — how to ensure autonomous AI agents operate safely - AI Testing and Benchmarking — developing global standards for AI performance - Misinformation and Deepfakes — tools for detection and mitigation - Quantum Technology Applications — exploring the intersection of quantum computing and AI - AI Infrastructure and Energy Demands — sustainable computing for a growing industry

The summit also features a dedicated Quantum for Good track and a robust skills-building program through the AI Skills Coalition, offering hands-on training sessions for participants from developing countries.

A Creative and Cultural Vision

Beyond the technology, the summit embraces the intersection of AI and creativity. The Canvas of the Future AI Art Competition showcases works created with and about AI, while the AI for Good Film Festival presents short films exploring AI's societal impact. AI-enabled artistic performances will take place throughout the event.

Why It Matters

As AI moves from research labs into real-world deployment at unprecedented speed, summits like AI for Good serve a critical function: they ensure that the technology's development is guided by human needs, not just market forces. With more than 100 ministers attending — over half from developing countries — the summit provides a rare platform where the Global South has an equal voice in shaping AI's future.
